Extrasensory Perception (ESP) is sensory information acknowledged by individual beyond the ordinary senses viz. sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch.
In other words we can say that ESP is the "sixth senseā of an Individual."
Sir Richard Burton, a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, first time used the term ESP in 1870. Thereafter the word ESP was again used in 1870 by a French researcher, Dr. Paul Joire, in 1892 in connection with describing the ability of hypnotized person or person under trance. There is a common belief that a hypnotized person would be able to demonstrate ESP.
Dr. Rudolph Tischner, a Munich ophthalmologist, again used the name ESP In the 1920's in the description of the "externalization of sensibility".
Finally, in 1930, Extrasensory Perception (ESP) was popularized by the American parapsychologist J. B. Rhine to include psychic phenomena similar to sensory functions. Rhine was among the first parapsychologists to test ESP phenomena in the laboratory.
